NILS®
The No Interest Loan Scheme developed by Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service nearly 30 years ago offers small no interest loans for people on low incomes for the purchase of essential household goods.
NILS® (No Interest Loan Scheme) is a program run by Local Community Centres offering low income households and Pension/Health Care cardholders the opportunity to access small credit to purchase ESSENTIAL brand new goods or necessities. These loans can be used for the purchase of refrigerators, washing machines, TV’s, computers, beds/mattresses, health needs/aids, and some repairs, courses, etc…
The loans are safe and affordable usually in the region of $800 to $1000 and are completely free of interest and fees. Manageable fortnightly payments are worked out with each applicant and the repayments are based over a 12 – 18 month period.
Under the umbrella of Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services run mainly by volunteers, Financial Counselling Victoria is coordinating a NILS® program in the areas of Bayside, Kingston and Glen Eira.
